Body piercings are a great way to express your individuality. And there are a lot of options to choose from including eyebrow, tongue and navel / belly button piercings. You can get a body piercing almost anywhere!

There’s also a great variety of jewelry to show off your piercing and express how you’re feeling.

So how does piercing work?

A piercing is when an opening is made in a body part– such as the ear, lip or nose– for the insertion of jewelry. Although there is some pain involved, it only takes minutes to get a new piercing. There is no anesthesia used during this process.

Piercing methods include an ear piercing gun used to quickly insert the earring stud through the earlobe or another part of the ear such as rook or helix. The best device to use is a single-use ear piercing gun or a sterilized one with disposable cartridges.

For other types of body piercings other than the earlobes, oftentimes the practitioner uses a hollow needle to pierce a hole in that body part. He or she then inserts the jewelry piece into the hole.

There are certain risks involved with piercing and potential complications. So do your research. There are numerous things to think about when getting a new piercing.

Some things to think about:

-Where you should get your body piercing
-The type of jewelry you’ll get
-How you’ll care for the piercing afterward
